What is a White Elephant Gift Exchange?

The White Elephant Gift Exchange

Hey everyone! For this year’s Christmas-Eve party at David and Ermita’s, we are planning to do a white elephant gift exchange! Not sure what it is? I added a paragraph below that explains the game and what type of gift to bring! Merry Christmas!!!

White elephant gifts are traditionally “presents” that are considered extremely tacky or that do not fit the tastes of the recipient. The thought behind a white elephant gift exchange is to give everyone a chance to rid themselves of these tacky gifts—and invariably gain a new one! White elephant gift exchanges can be run different ways. Some set rules that the item must be previously owned, which means that you are re-gifting an unwanted item or trinket. Others purchase a new, generally inexpensive, tacky item just for the party. The goal is to choose wacky, funny or entertaining gifts. If you’re really stumped, just pay a visit to your local thrift store.

Finding the perfect white elephant gift:

  • If you’re having trouble coming up with a gift that is both off-the-wall and appropriate, consider these gift ideas:
    • Hideous jewelry
    • Perfume or lotion with an unpleasant scent.
    • Cheap, ugly statues or other decorative knick-knacks.
    • An obnoxious T-shirt, sweater, tie, or bow-tie.
    • Workout videos, particularly those with Richard Simmons.
    • A framed picture of your Leader, but only if the boss has a good sense of humor.
  • Still stumped? Visit this site for ideas.

Can’t wait to see everyone’s wrapped up gifts, this should be super fun!!!

What made you want to start a blog?

I have had blogs off and on ever since I started college. It wasn’t until I found myself newly married, in a new city, and longing to try something new that I really dove into the blogging world.

What is your favorite thing about blogging?

I love to look back at the memories that I have created but I have always been terrible at keeping a journal. I found that typing up a blog post about some of my favorite experiences really helped me to make a better collection of my favorite things that I have experienced through my life. One of the best perks of blogging though has definitely been the great connections! I love getting to know and making a connection with people in a unique way.

What is a typical day like for you in the life of a blogger?

The neat thing about being a blogger is that you can make it as big or small as you would like. Blogging is definitely more of a hobby for me so I don’t dedicate too much time for it. I have seen so many people delete blogs because they become overly stressful. I always want my blog to be something that I can go to and use as an outlet and a way to recharge myself. A typical day for me as a blogger includes checking emails, a little too much social media, reading other blogs, and blogging for myself when I feel inspired.

What is something you know now that you wish you knew when starting your blog?

There is no equation to blogging! There tends to be a lot of common themes in blogging and I think that some people feel pressure to fit into a certain mold. This definitely doesn’t have to be the case. Make your blog exactly how you like it and don’t worry about it. If you don’t want to take outfit pictures and be a fashion blogger, don’t! If you want to write about something a little out of the norm, go for it! You don’t have to classify yourself as a certain type of blogger. Although sometimes having some sort of niche can be useful, it definitely isn’t a requirement. Don’t be afraid to break out of the mold.

Tell me about your family!

I am happily married to my husband, Tim. We just moved to the San Francisco Bay Area from Utah and we are loving the change! I’m a night owl, he’s an early bird, I’m a student and he is a Googler. We both love spending time with people we love, traveling, going on adventures, and spending too much money on food.

What is your ultimate goal with your blog?

I always want my blog to be something that improves my quality of life. I have seen numerous people get so stressed about their blogs that it takes all the fun out of it. I always want blogging to be something fun for me.

Eiffel Tower Fireworks July 14th 2014 Bastille Day

One of the most amazing things I saw in Paris was during Bastille Day, the Eiffel tower fireworks on July 14th 2014. I can honestly say this is the coolest thing I have ever seen in my life. The 4th of July fireworks I am used to can never live up to this. I was so lucky to be close enough to these to see this scene from a great angle. I hope you enjoy this video as much as I did when I was there. I still cannot believe I got to witness this in real life!

Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo Festival 2014

A couple days ago my boyfriend and I went to the rehearsal night opening of the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo Festival 2014. We got an amazing deal on tickets, HALF PRICE! We got each of them for 19 pounds! If you buy tickets for the rehearsal night opening, all the tickets are half price for the same performance.

This was an amazing time, and I made a video of some of the highlights of the night. I hope you enjoy!

The Inspiring Anchored in Light Blog

My second shoutout is to this amazing blogger, Rachael Anne Campbell! She is an amazingly creative writer with imagery that will capture you and inspire.

So why did she start her blog?

“I’d started reading a lot of lifestyle blogs and I admired all these amazing women. I was inspired by their bravery and creativity”

I love her openness on her blogging, where she wants to share her view and adventures with the world, in a way that captures the essence of herself while keeping readers engaged. She is first concerned about enjoying life, and second about blogging.

And what tip does she have for us fellow bloggers?

“Read a lot of blogs! See what you like, what you don’t. Take the best of all of them and believe in yourself.”

Finally, what is Rachael’s ultimate goal for her blog?

“Share me and my life. Inspire others to keep dreaming, but also to live their dreams.”

Follow her on Instagram @rachaelanne143 and visit her delightful blog Anchored in Light and enjoy! Let’s get connected!

Primark Black Rucksack Backpack Review

This backpack was only 12 pounds, and quite worth it! It is cute, can carry quite a bit, but I caution to put too much weight in it, as the shoulder straps are not very sturdy. If you are looking for just a cute backpack to travel around in, this is a great one!

Women’s Express Red Dress Review

This dress I got when it was on sale (50% off everything in the store during Christmas time), and I wore it to Paris when we were visiting Versailles. It is a great dress that really makes a statement, you can add a belt to it, leave it by itself, dress it up, dress it down, so many different ways to wear it. It can be a daytime dress, nighttime dress for a cocktail party, anything you would like!

This amazing Ttahari coat is one of my favorites, and I really do recommend it, which is why I am doing the T Tahari coat review. You can get them at Nordstrom, and they are warm and fashionable. I wear this thing all the time!
